There are many reasons why people seek help. Taking the step contacting a therapist can feel daunting. Counselling or psychotherapy offers a compassionate, nonjudgmental, confidential space where client and therapist together explore the issues that you are struggling with.
There are times in all of our lives when we are confronted with difficulties that leave us feeling overwhelmed.
I offer short and long-term therapy with adults over the age of 18. I integrate a wide range of theories, the most important of which is a Person -Centred approach integrated with psychodynamic Self and Relational theories.
Person Centred therapy is based on the work of Carl Rodgers who recognised that all individuals have the resources to realise their full potential. Psychodynamic therapy facilitates an understanding by exploring the early childhood experiences that shape us all. Since there is no such thing as perfect parents, the best we can hope for is “good enough” parents. Many of us will have grown up in single parent homes; others of may have come from divorced parents. Thus, many of us will have experienced profound hurt, neglect, abuse and abandonment, as children
.
To cope with these traumas, we learn various coping mechanisms. These serve us as children but as adults, they may prevent us from leading fulfilling lives. Psychotherapy is a means to heal these wounds.
The integration of a number of approaches mean I bring a wide range of skills to assist you with your own unique experience of the common difficulties of living.
I respect and value the diversity of all my many clients. I work with people from all walks of life, irrespective of racial, cultural and sexual orientation.
